Move Ballard Walk/Bike Tour and Open House

On June 22nd, YPT Seattle hosted a walk/bike tour of Ballard, one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Seattle. The tour took participants to a number of locations where projects are highlighted in the City's multi-modal plans. Discussion ranged from pedestrian and bicycle projects, to the freight master plan currently in development, to the considerations of where and how to place a high capacity transit station within the community. Representatives from community organizations like YPT Seattle, Cascade Bicycle Club, Seattle Greenways, and the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals Washington Chapter all made showings, along with representatives from consulting firms managing projects in the neighborhood, including Nelson Nygaard, and Fehr and Peers. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) was also present to field questions, and get feedback on what is and isn't working in the neighborhood. After the tour, SDOT rolled out maps at Peddler Brewing and discussion was held to help them identify near term projects with the greatest impact.

Overall the event was a success, connecting community members, transportation professionals, and city employees from multiple disciplines. SDOT was able to walk away with some great feedback. YPT members were able to make a lot of great connections, and gain a stronger sense of transportation issues in Ballard.
